Who needs a decal when you have Plasti-dip. My son wanted to see what the hood decal would look like so we did a run to Lowes and made a quick plasti-dip version. Not sure how well it will hold up, but for $12 bucks, it was fun...

I have considered doing this just for fun. How did you guys tape it off and remove the tape without pulling up the plastidip?

Used blue painters tape, then used a very sharp exacto to carefully cut around the edge, then carefully pulled the tape back on itself. Occasionally it would try to peel, so we just cut with exacto. Just took our time and it turned out great. Completed it late yesterday afternoon. Should be well dried by now. We will see how it holds up.

It was just a fun project for my son and I...He was inspired by David's hood.

Not a bad idea at all. I have seen a few of the red TT's with the hood decal and I like it a lot.

That looks really good! I've started using green Frog Tape and prefer it much more over the blue tape since it leaves a cleaner line. If you pull the tape off while paint is still tacky, it comes off perfectly with no bleeding. I assume it'd be the same with plastidip. I hope this idea doesn't catch on with Honda Civics...

Looks Great! Now that you've mastered the technique, instead of just the letters, can you make the hood black, and cut out the letters? Just askin'?Cool

The vinyl place here in Elizabeth city will do it for $100 installed. Not sure if that is good or not.

Do you mean create and install vinyl hood decal? You can buy a custom one from Amaesing Decals for like $75...the install looks very simple.

I guess $100 for the decal and install is not such a bad deal...

That's probably a good deal for the piece of mind of not f'n up the decal... It would be my luck that the decal would end up in the trash can in a big sticky tape ball! Does that price include something custom cut our of it or just a flat black decal like the older TT's?

One word of advise when using Plasticdip. Instead of using an exacto knife, try using a toothpics. If you go too deep it wont cut into your paint or clearcoat.
Both of the hoods look good, nice job.
