PostSubject: my free holster   Wed Jun 20, 2012 1:49 pm

I was playing on the XD forum and ran across a free holster for anyone with an XD.

I cut down the speed loader and attached it to the supplied belt holster, and bolted the speed loader to inside the door pocket, and then slid the holster onto the loader.

It is great for me since I am a lefty. I use a paddle when carrying.

Thought it is worth sharing.

it is not a give away! It was technically free because I used the loader and holster that came with the gun.

Hey Scott, I did a wrteup on the one you posted a pic of. Super easy and cheap solution... $12 from Walmart.

Travis, now I finally know what to do with that POS holster!! lol. Mines been collecting dust for about a year. I usually carry my Ruger LCP but on the off chance I carry my XD I use a Blackhawk holster. I love that one and it has a "release" button when you draw.

Great post!

Travis, if it isn't too much work, would you mind posting a few pics on where the screws go into the speed loader? Im looking at it and I can't quite find a good spot that wouldn't get in the way of the holster. Thanks.

yeah, i was shaking some but then again, i had no money invested. The dremel was like a hot knife through butter.

Also, if you have a sub comp XD it will fit in the driver glove box with a closed lid but it has to be without the pearce grip.

I often grab my wife's LC9 because it fits in the box and it also is light and thin enough for cargo shorts and not fracture my knee when walking around Evil or Very Mad I really like her CL9.

The XD I have has the 4" barrel. I use my LCP for CCW but I want more of a permanent truck gun. I usually carry the LCP like I said and keep my .357 snub nose in the glove box but it would be nice to have a weapon in there that has a few more rounds. Ill keep carrying the LCP, put the XD in the FJ and make the .357 the nightstand gun.

What type of screws did you use and is it pretty sturdy? I don't want the thing to budge at all. I plan on actually mounting it, since I'm a righty, by my right knee to the left of the center console.

Oh, and you're definitely right about the portability of the Ruger. I wanted the LC9 but got a fantastic deal on mine. Either will do the job (and well) if executed properly. Summer is great cause I'll just throw it in the cargo pocket in a pocket holster and I'm good. I also throw it in my pack when I hike or go bike riding. It's great!

few more pics.

I put the top of the loader just under the lip on the door pocket. I used bolts, large washers on the rear and nuts to make it a tight secure fit (bolts have the tapered head). there is plenty of room between that area and the door speaker, i did the install without removing the door panel. I pulled hte bottom out enough to attach the washers and nuts.

I was getting some rubbing when i would slip the holster on, if you are not planning on removing it (which I do not) then no worries, did notch out where the bolt heads would touch on the holster (goes on and off easier).

So finally got around to making the holster for my XD. Since Im a righty, Travis' location didnt work so I chose another. So far its great and I love it. Completely out of the way of my knee as well. You cant tell from the picture but its pretty well tucked under the dash. Thanks for the great FREE mod Travis!! cheers
