I usually use premium, but am now wondering why. I have run probably 4 tanks of 87 and the mpg and the performance seem the same exactly. So I am wondering why the 91 is suggested by toyota? Any one please chime in and let me know what you feed your baby and why.

its suggested probably for the fact that 87 octane now a days doesnt burn the ethanol off as well as the 93 octane...cleaner burn from the 93 and burns off the ethanol easier...i however still run 87....everyonce in a while i will run a bottle of fuel system cleaner jsut to try to get any gunk out...but i just dont see any real advantage of 93 over 87...i cant afford the hi test anyway..lol

Yeah thats how I'm feeling as well. Unless some one can definently tell me otherwise why have I been putting the premo in. I read a few threads on other sites and some warned about it, but had no facts besides thats what toyota say. ALso toyota regulary fills fjs with 0 20 or 5 30 or 10 30 whatever is currently there from what I've read.

Actually Toyota recommends 87 for 2010-current FJs. Premium was recommended pre 2010 to achieve maximum performance numbers.

Nice until the vvti stops working I will run 87 plus a little occasional lucas. When it goes I'm going diesel with a 4bt or maybe 6bt cummins. I will buy a centrifuge, and begin running veggie oil.

That is what I had read shortly after getting my FJ 4 years ago. 93 was recommended in order to achieve the performance numbers. Honestly, I have not been able to tell any difference and I run 87 all the time with an occasional tank of 93 just for kicks. I guess I am thinking that occasional run of 93 will help somewhere.
