PostSubject: Mobil 1 oil    Tue Jan 31, 2012 11:51 am

Guys and gals as much as I HATE shopping at Walmart I just found they have a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 5w-30 for 27.19 online. You can purchase online and pick up in store. This is roughly 5.44 a quart. Also the quart sizes are cheaper than what I have seen in auto parts stores. Mobil 1 is a outstanding oil product that I have been using exclusively in my gas motors for well since I was a teenager, yes that long ago. And for the price and availability it cant be beat.
As for my filter I use the NAPA gold 1515. It is made by Wix filters and comes in at under 7.00 bucks. This is also a great filter that cant be beat for the price. The Napa Gold 1348 is a direct replacement for the stock Toyota filter the 1515 is a bigger size. These will work on 2007-2009 motors and probably earlier ones as well. The 2010 and up is a different animal all together. I done see you putting a bigger filter in the canister just a better quaility one. Unless you do a filter relocation kit which I have no idea if that even exist.

I use this oil myself. What impresses me about it is I check the oil level regularly and even at 6500 miles on the oil it still has a bit of transparency. Conventional oil is usually pitch black by 3-4k miles. I plan to use M1 for as long as I can.

If Toyota put in 0W20 as part of your 2 year service, that is a fully synthetic oil, which I read is made by Exxon Mobil to Toyota specifications (tweaked Mobil1).

The 2013's come factory fill with 0W20 synthetic oil and 75W85 synthetic gear lube.

I've been using synthetic oil and gear lube since 1984 (Amsoil, Redline, Mobil1). They all work especially well in below 0 temperatures. If you have a manual transmission, the results are immediately felt in cold weather shifting.

I would not run it 10K miles, but change it at 5K as recommended for severe use.

I've been using the M1 as well with good results, Change it ever 5-6 K in th Runner & ever 6-7 K in the Civic. Looks good and not to dirty with that many miles on it. I usually pick it up from Wally Word the 5qt jug runs around $26.00 and the 1 qt around $6.99. Last month I caught a deal from Costco, 6qt case for $29.00 I stick with the 5w30 for the Runner and a Toyota filter. I also use M1 for all the diffs and transfer case as well.

I have been running M1 for as long as I can remember in my vehicles. Good stuff!

I've used Mobil1, RedLine and AMSOIL (former Canadian AMSOIL Dealer in the early 80's), but trying to find a local Redline or AMSOIL dealer or paying $$$ for shipping just isn't worth the difference of using readily available Mobil1 from Wallys.

Wally's price on the 5QT jugs of Mobil1 is very hard to beat.

If Mobil1 is good enough for the Space Shuttle, it's good enough for my FJ too.

Synthetic Oil has come a long way in the last 30 years. Back in the early 80's it was like selling Snake Oil. No one wanted to buy it, because it was so new, and so expensive. AMSOIL was about $10 CDN a Quart in 1982 vs $2 CDN a Quart for ESSO Extra. Luckily I worked near the AMSOIL Canadian Distribution warehouse in Toronto, so I didn't have pay shipping.

My biggest AMSOIL customers were RX-7 owners in Toronto.

I used synthetic oil in my '82 RX-7 and '87 Twin Turbo RX-7 because it didn't foul the special 4 prong spark plugs which were directly exposed to the twin rotors and engine oil. RX-7's used oil injection into the gas, and synthetic burned very clean and kept the $10 spark plugs looking like new. The difference on the spark plugs was amazing after switching to synthetic oil. Oil on the Twin Turbo would typically burn off when the engine was turned off, but not with Synthetic Oil. The cold Canadian winters were perfect for Synthetic Gear Lube, which made the shifter like butter.
